A devastating building collapse in the northern Philippines has left a community in mourning and rescue teams racing against time. Early Sunday morning, a structure in Angeles City, located in the Pampanga Province, gave way, trapping dozens of people beneath the rubble.
Authorities confirmed on Monday, May 25, 2026, that four people have died as a result of the disaster. Three victims were recovered from the wreckage of the collapsed building, while a Malaysian national staying at a nearby apartelle was tragically killed by falling debris.
The scale of the rescue operation is immense. Local media reports indicate that as of Sunday afternoon, 26 individuals had been successfully rescued—24 from the main building and two from the adjacent apartelle. Of these survivors, ten sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in nearby hospitals.
However, the mission remains perilous. Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that while search and rescue operations continue for the 17 people still missing, teams are facing hazardous conditions. Unstable debris and the presence of live power lines continue to pose significant risks to emergency personnel on the ground.
As a precautionary measure, residents in the immediate vicinity have been evacuated to ensure their safety while the site is stabilized. The local community and international observers remain hopeful for the safe recovery of those still missing in one of the region's most challenging rescue missions this year.
