DPRK Launches Ballistic Missiles Amid Rising Tensions, ROK Calls Emergency Meeting

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired multiple ballistic missiles toward waters off its eastern coast early Sunday, according to the Republic of Korea (ROK) military. The launch occurred near Sinpo at approximately 6:10 a.m. local time, marking the latest escalation in regional security concerns.

The ROK's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed the projectiles traveled approximately 300 kilometers before splashing down in the Sea of Japan. This follows a similar launch on April 8, when the DPRK conducted two separate short-range ballistic missile tests within a single day.

In response to the latest provocation, the ROK presidential office convened an emergency National Security Council meeting to assess strategic countermeasures. Analysts suggest the tests coincide with heightened military exercises between the ROK and United States forces in the region.

While Pyongyang has not officially commented on the launches, observers note this marks the DPRK's fourth missile test this year. The developments come amid stalled denuclearization talks and renewed debates about regional stability in Northeast Asia.
