UN Demands US Conclude Probe Into Iran School Strike

The United Nations has intensified pressure on the United States to complete its investigation into a controversial February 2026 strike on an Iranian elementary school that killed civilians. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk declared during an urgent debate at the 61st UN Human Rights Council session that "there must be justice for the terrible harm done" to children and families affected by the attack.

Turk emphasized via video message that the bombing evoked "visceral horror" globally, urging Washington to conduct a "prompt, impartial, and transparent" inquiry. "The onus is on those who carried out the attack to investigate… and lay the basis for accountability," he stated, condemning military actions that target civilian infrastructure.

The UN official also criticized recent patterns of attacks by US and Israeli forces on Iranian residential areas and nuclear facilities, calling such strikes "reckless beyond comprehension." He urged all parties to exercise restraint and resume diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation.

This development comes as regional tensions persist following the February 28 incident, documented by China Media Group through images of the destroyed school. Observers note growing international concern over civilian casualties in conflict zones.
