$45 Million Cocaine Pipeline: Sophisticated Tunnel Found at US-Mexico Border

In a significant blow to transnational narcotics trafficking, US officials have uncovered a highly sophisticated drug-smuggling tunnel spanning the border between the United States and Mexico.

The tunnel, which stretched from Tijuana into a retail store located near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in California, represents a high level of clandestine engineering. Measuring approximately 590 meters in length and reaching a depth of 16.8 meters, the subterranean passage was equipped with reinforced walls, an integrated rail system, and specialized ventilation. To ensure operational efficiency, the smugglers had also installed electricity and a hydraulic lift for moving shipments.

Investigators revealed that the scale of the operation was immense, with an estimated $45 million worth of cocaine having been transported through the corridor before its detection. The precision and infrastructure of the tunnel highlight the evolving complexities and the professional nature of modern smuggling operations.

Following an intensive investigation, four individuals have been charged in connection with the case. This discovery underscores the ongoing efforts by border authorities to dismantle illicit networks and secure international transit routes.
