DPRK Advances to U17 Women’s Asian Cup Final After Thrilling Victory Over China

In a high-energy encounter held in Suzhou, the defending champions from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) showcased their clinical strength with a 4-2 victory over hosts China. The match, characterized by tactical intensity and individual brilliance, saw the DPRK secure their place in the final of the U17 Women's Asian Cup.

The contest began with the DPRK seizing early control. In the 28th minute, Yu Jong-Hyang capitalized on a defensive lapse to break the deadlock. The lead was quickly doubled just five minutes later when Ri Kyong-Im unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box, assisted by a precise pass from Ri Ui-Gyong.

China, however, refused to fade. Just before the halftime whistle, Liu Yuxi scored her third goal of the tournament, providing the home side with momentum heading into the break. The energy in the stadium peaked early in the second half when Liu scored again, just five minutes after the restart, following a deft play by Zhao Siqing to level the score at 2-2.

Despite the equalizer, the DPRK regained their composure and dominance. In the 65th minute, Yu Jong-Hyang tapped in a cross from Kim Won-Sim to reclaim the lead. Ten minutes later, Yu completed a spectacular hat-trick with a well-timed header from a Won Sol-Gyong cross, sealing the 4-2 victory and silencing the home crowd.

While the loss is a setback for the hosts, China has already achieved a major milestone for the year, having secured a spot in the U17 World Cup following their 3-0 quarterfinal victory over India.

The stage is now set for a highly anticipated final between the DPRK and Japan, who advanced after a commanding 4-0 win over Australia. This upcoming clash serves as a rematch of the 2024 final, which the DPRK won, promising an electrifying conclusion to the tournament.
