China Women’s Table Tennis Team Cruises into 2026 World Championship Semifinals

In a display of dominance and resilience, the China women's table tennis team has secured its place in the semifinals of the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championship Finals. On Thursday, China delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over the Republic of Korea, echoing an earlier triumph against the same opponent during the group stage.

A Dominant Start

The momentum began with Wang Manyu, who set a high standard for the match. Wang delivered a stunning performance against Shin Yu-bin, cruising to a victory with a decisive scoreline of 11-1, 11-4, 11-4, leaving little room for the opponent to gain a foothold.

Resilience Under Pressure

The second match provided the day's most intense drama. World No. 1 Sun Yingsha faced a formidable challenge from Kim Na-yeong, who had previously proven to be a tough opponent in the group stages. After winning the first game 11-7, Sun struggled to maintain her lead, dropping the next two games 11-7, 11-7. The situation grew critical in the fourth game, where Sun trailed 4-1.

However, showcasing the mental fortitude that defines her top ranking, Sun launched a blistering comeback. She won ten consecutive points to force a fifth and final game. Despite Kim narrowing the gap to a single point at 9-5, Sun remained composed to clinch the match 11-9.

Reflecting on the narrow escape, Sun emphasized the importance of the experience. "I think I was not that far away from losing this time," Sun remarked. "I feel that I can learn a lot from this match. Things will get harder and harder in the upcoming days. So I need to look back at this match and see what I did right and what I did wrong."

Sealing the Victory

The victory was finalized by Wang Yidi, who overcame Park Ga-hyeon. Despite a slight stumble in the third game (10-12), Wang Yidi dominated the rest of the encounter with scores of 11-5, 11-3, and 11-2, officially propelling China into the next round.

As the tournament progresses, the Chinese team now awaits the winner of the match between France and Romania to determine their opponent in the semifinals.
