Chinese War Martyrs Laid to Rest in Shenyang After 70 Years

The remains of 13 Chinese People\'s Volunteers (CPV) martyrs, repatriated from the Republic of Korea (ROK), were buried with state honors on April 23, 2026, at Shenyang Martyrs\' Cemetery in northeast China\'s Liaoning Province. This marks the 13th consecutive annual repatriation since 2014, bringing the total number of returned CPV remains to 1,023.

More than 300 attendees including veterans\' families, military representatives, and local residents witnessed the solemn ceremony. "These heroes fought courageously under extreme conditions to defend peace," stated a Chinese veterans\' affairs official during the tribute.

The repatriation coincides with China\'s efforts to preserve the legacy of the 1950-1953 War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Historical records show 2.9 million CPV soldiers fought alongside the Democratic People\'s Republic of Korea (DPRK), with over 360,000 casualties. Cross-border cooperation between China and the ROK continues to identify remains through joint forensic efforts.
