Beijing Film Festival Kicks Off with Global Star Power

The 16th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), currently underway from April 16 to 25, 2026, has launched with a dazzling opening ceremony celebrating cinematic artistry and cross-cultural collaboration. Filmmakers, actors, and industry leaders from the Chinese mainland and over 50 countries gathered in the capital, highlighting this year’s theme of ‘Shared Screens, Shared Futures.’

With 150+ films from Asia, Europe, and the Americas slated for screening, the festival bridges commercial blockbusters and indie productions. Organizers emphasized its role in fostering dialogue amid global challenges, while business forums address streaming innovations and co-production opportunities.

Notably, 40% of this year’s entries are directed by women—a record high—showcasing Asia’s evolving creative landscape. The event also features VR showcases and AI-driven filmmaking workshops, positioning Beijing as a hub for cinematic innovation.
