China and UK Strengthen Ties: FM Wang Yi and Secretary Yvette Cooper Hold Strategic Dialogue

In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in Beijing this Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The meeting served as the center-piece of the 11th China-UK strategic dialogue. This high-level regular dialogue mechanism, first established by the two governments in 2004, continues to provide a critical platform for coordinating interests and managing the complex relationship between the two nations.

Foreign Secretary Cooper is currently conducting an official visit to China from June 1 to 3. This visit marks another key milestone in a series of high-level interactions this year, following the visit of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to China in January 2026.

The ongoing diplomatic engagement underscores a shared commitment to advancing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, seeking common ground on global challenges and strengthening economic and political ties in an increasingly dynamic international landscape.
