A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in southwest China's Yunnan Province, where a collapse during illegal mining activities resulted in five fatalities and one injury.
The accident took place around 4:30 a.m. in Baiwu Village, located in Nagu Town within Huize County. Local authorities reported that the collapse trapped six individuals, prompting an immediate and large-scale rescue operation.
To ensure a swift response, multiple agencies—including emergency response, public security, firefighting, health, and natural resources departments from both Qujing City and Huize County—coordinated their efforts. While all six trapped individuals were successfully pulled from the debris and rushed to the hospital, medical teams were unable to save five of them.
The sole survivor is currently reported to be in stable condition and is no longer in life-threatening danger.
Local authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the precise cause of the collapse and to address the circumstances surrounding the illegal mining activities in the region.
