A devastating accident has claimed the lives of eight people and left one person missing after a pickup truck plunged into a river in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the Chinese mainland.
The incident occurred on Saturday night in Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County. According to local authorities, the vehicle, which was carrying 15 people, fell into the water while attempting to cross a bridge that had been flooded due to severe downpours in the region.
Emergency response teams were deployed immediately, and five individuals were successfully rescued from the river. However, authorities confirmed on Tuesday that eight passengers have died, and search operations are still underway to locate the one person who remains missing.
This tragedy underscores the significant risks posed by extreme weather conditions and flooded infrastructure, serving as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with heavy rain events in the region.
