A vibrant cultural exchange event emphasizing shared heritage and integrated development across the Taiwan Strait commenced this Tuesday in the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area of the Chinese mainland's Fujian Province.
The gathering brought together approximately 300 representatives, including academics, ethnic minority figures, and individuals from various professional backgrounds from both sides of the Strait. The two-day program features a specialized exhibition dedicated to maritime culture and a series of roundtable dialogues designed to foster deeper mutual understanding.
During the opening ceremony, Su Hui, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairperson of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, spoke on the deep historical bonds of the region. Su emphasized that people from all ethnic groups, including Taiwan compatriots, have jointly shaped the rich and vast homeland throughout the thousands of years of the Chinese nation's history. She urged attendees to maintain firm historical confidence and reinforce their sense of identity with the Chinese culture and the motherland, encouraging pride in a shared Chinese identity.
Furthering the call for cooperation, Tseng Yung-chuan, former vice chairman of the Kuomintang, highlighted the importance of expanding exchanges and cooperation across various sectors. He advocated for utilizing the 1992 Consensus as a foundational anchor to resolve misunderstandings and narrow differences, promoting stability and integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.
By focusing on cultural roots and dialogue, the event serves as a significant platform for residents to reconnect and explore collaborative opportunities in an ever-evolving regional landscape.
