Beijing to Host First China New Cultural and Creative Fair and Trendy Play Carnival

Beijing is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of art, heritage, and innovation. Starting tomorrow, May 15, the city will host the first China New Cultural and Creative Fair and Trendy Play Carnival, a 10-day immersive event running through May 24.

Jointly guided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Beijing Municipal Government, the fair is more than just an exhibition; it is a vibrant intersection where traditional heritage meets modern design and digital entertainment.

A Fusion of Tradition and Trend

Under the theme "Culture for Harmony, Creativity for Life, Trendy for the Future," the fair showcases over 10,000 cultural and creative products—locally known as "wen chuang." With 171 selected exhibitors from all 31 provinces and autonomous regions of the Chinese mainland, the event offers a comprehensive look at the nation's creative landscape.

Visitors can explore two primary thematic sections: "Eastern New Aesthetics" and "New Trendy Forces." These sections bridge the gap between eras, displaying everything from intricate replicas of ancient phoenix crowns to jewelry inspired by Li Jingxun of the Sui Dynasty (581-618), creating a dynamic dialogue between ancestral aesthetics and contemporary style.

World-Class Participants and Immersive Experiences

The event features a powerhouse "museum team," including the Palace Museum, the National Museum of China, the National Art Museum of China, and the Capital Museum. These are joined by central enterprises such as the China Publishing Group and a dedicated pavilion for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) led by the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum.

Beyond the galleries, the carnival promises a high-energy atmosphere. Over 100 live performances will take place across 10 indoor and outdoor stages, featuring folk art troupes and national-level ensembles. Attendees can also experience night cruises, light shows, "mecha" parades, and traditional celebrations, such as the golden dragon cruise from Yangshuo and the Muchuan straw dragon dance from Sichuan province, complemented by regional street food.

Visit the Carnival

The festivities will be centered in the eastern part of Chaoyang Park, encompassing the Chaoyang Museum of Urban Planning and the Weibo IN complex. In an effort to make culture accessible to all, admission to the fair is free.

This ambitious event serves as a strategic platform to boost cultural consumption and satisfy the growing public appetite for high-quality, innovative creative products, further cementing Beijing's role as a hub for global cultural exchange and creative industry growth.
