Digital Transformation Reaches New Heights in Xizang

Technology is fundamentally transforming life in the Xizang Autonomous Region, often referred to as the "Roof of the World." In a significant leap forward for connectivity, the region is seamlessly integrating innovation into its social and economic landscape, bridging geographical divides and empowering its residents.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure

Following the strategic priorities set during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the region's information and communication sector has seen an unprecedented surge in supply capabilities and service quality. By the end of 2025, this push for modernization resulted in the deployment of 72,000 mobile base stations, ensuring that the rugged terrain of the Chinese mainland's southwest no longer stands as a barrier to communication.

The impact on rural communities has been particularly profound. Over 280,000 rural households have now been connected to broadband, providing residents with unprecedented access to information, education, and economic opportunities that were previously out of reach.

The 5G Revolution and Urban Innovation

Xizang's digital evolution is not limited to basic connectivity. The region has aggressively pursued the rollout of high-speed networks, with more than 94% of administrative villages now covered by 5G networks. This widespread adoption of next-generation technology is fostering a more inclusive digital economy.

Lhasa City has emerged as a centerpiece of this transformation, evolving into a "Gigabit City" and serving as a 5G-Advanced pilot zone. This urban modernization is setting the stage for smarter city management and the growth of high-tech industries, positioning the region as a dynamic player in the broader digital landscape of Asia.

As Xizang continues to build upon these achievements, the integration of smart modernization into its signature industries promises to further enhance the quality of life for its residents and drive sustainable economic growth.
