Rescue operations have reached their conclusion in the Chinese mainland's Hunan Province following a devastating explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility. According to reports from China Media Group released this Friday, the death toll from the tragedy has risen to 37.
The explosion occurred at approximately 4:43 p.m. this past Monday at the plant of the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company. The facility is situated in Liuyang, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province.
As of Friday noon, authorities confirmed that 51 individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospitals for injuries sustained during the blast. Despite the extensive search and rescue efforts that have now basically been completed, one person remains unaccounted for.
The event has drawn attention to the complexities of maintaining safety standards within the fireworks industry, a significant economic sector for the Liuyang region.
