Xi Jinping Calls on Chinese Youth to Fuel National Development Journey

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the nation's youth to weave their personal ambitions into the broader tapestry of China's development, calling this a prime opportunity to contribute to the country's progress.

The message was conveyed in a reply letter to representatives of awardees of the China Youth May Fourth Medal and the New Era Youth Pioneer, ahead of China's Youth Day, which was observed on Monday, May 4th.

In the letter, President Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended festive greetings to young people across the country. He commended the awardees, who come from diverse grassroots positions in fields like sci-tech innovation, rural revitalization, social services, and border defense, as exemplars of a confident and high-spirited generation.

Highlighting the significance of the current moment, President Xi stressed that 2026 marks the opening year of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). He described the present as a crucial time for young people to make their mark.

"The president urged young Chinese to stay rooted in their posts, strive for new achievements, and inject their youthful dynamism into advancing the nation's new journey of development," the letter stated.

The awards are designed to honor outstanding young role models who demonstrate strong political commitment, high moral character, and significant contributions to society. Recently, 16 awardees from the past years wrote to the president to report on their grassroots work and reaffirm their dedication to national development.

This call to action underscores the continuing emphasis on the role of the younger generation in achieving long-term national goals, framing personal success as intrinsically linked to collective advancement.
