The fourth Capital Deans’ Forum on Journalism and Communication convened at Beijing Sport University this weekend, uniting over 30 university leaders, media executives, and researchers to address the challenges of digital innovation in media education. Held on Saturday, the event emphasized adapting curricula to artificial intelligence, big data, and evolving audience demands while preserving journalistic integrity.
Co-organized by the Chinese Association of Journalism History and three other professional bodies, the forum featured four roundtables examining disciplinary reforms, industry partnerships, and ethical frameworks for next-generation communicators. Participants stressed the need for journalism programs to balance technological fluency with social responsibility amid rapid platform shifts.
‘Our graduates must master immersive storytelling tools without losing sight of truth-seeking principles,’ remarked one dean during discussions about AI-driven content creation. Cross-strait collaboration models were also explored, with several institutions outlining plans for shared research initiatives with overseas counterparts.
The outcomes are expected to influence China’s national media education guidelines later this year, particularly regarding standardized AI ethics modules and expanded internship networks with tech firms.
