Canton Fair 2026 Draws Record Overseas Buyers in First Phase

The 139th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) concluded its first phase on April 19, 2026, with a historic surge in overseas participation, signaling renewed global confidence in Asia's largest trade event. Organizers reported 167,000 overseas buyers from 216 countries and regions attended the offline exhibition—a 5.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025—marking the highest first-phase turnout in the fair's 69-year history.

Held under the theme 'Advancing Manufacturing,' the initial phase showcased over 12,000 exhibitors and 25,000 booths, highlighting China's industrial innovation and supply chain resilience. The China Foreign Trade Center attributed the record numbers to growing international demand for high-tech manufacturing solutions and sustainable production practices.

The second phase, scheduled from April 23 to 27, will shift focus to 'Quality Home Life,' featuring products ranging from smart furniture to eco-friendly household goods. Analysts suggest the strong early turnout reflects broader optimism about Asia's economic recovery, with cross-border trade flows rebounding to pre-pandemic levels across key sectors.

Since its establishment in 1957, the Canton Fair has served as a critical platform for global businesses to access Asian markets. This year's event, running through May 5 in Guangzhou, is expected to set new benchmarks for China's foreign trade engagement amid evolving global supply chains.
