This year’s celebrations, set to occur later this week, highlight the enduring traditions of southern China’s ethnic communities.
Villagers meticulously craft pillow-shaped zongba – glutinous rice parcels wrapped in fragrant leaves – as families gather to share techniques passed through generations. “Making zongba together strengthens our bonds and honors our ancestors,” explained local resident Wei Fenghua, kneading rice dough in her courtyard.
The festival, celebrated by Buyi, Zhuang, and other ethnic groups, features communal feasts, folk songs, and rituals symbolizing spring’s renewal.
