Wenchang Pineapples Sweeten Rural Revival in Hainan

Farmers in Wenchang, Hainan Province, are harvesting sun-kissed pineapples this week as the tropical fruit reaches peak ripeness. The 2026 season showcases advanced cultivation methods combining Hainan's natural advantages with precision agriculture, yielding produce described by local growers as "nature's golden candy."

Over the past three years, Wenchang has developed a vertically integrated pineapple industry spanning organic farming, e-commerce distribution, and agricultural tourism. The region's signature fruit now generates over $120 million annually, with exports reaching Singapore and Japan through new cold-chain partnerships.

"This year's crop quality exceeds all expectations," said Chen Liwei, a third-generation pineapple farmer. "We're using soil sensors and AI-assisted growth tracking to maintain premium standards while doubling yields since 2023."

The provincial government recently launched the "Golden Crown" certification program, guaranteeing origin and quality for domestic buyers and overseas investors. Tourism initiatives also allow visitors to pick pineapples and sample value-added products like artisanal vinegar and dried slices.

With harvest festivals scheduled through May and new processing facilities under construction, Wenchang's pineapple boom demonstrates how China's rural revitalization strategy creates sustainable agricultural success stories.
