Xi Urges China-Spain Partnership to Uphold Global Multilateralism

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for strengthened cooperation between China and Spain to counter global instability and uphold multilateralism during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing on Tuesday. The leaders discussed shared priorities amid rising geopolitical tensions, with Xi warning against a return to “the law of the jungle” in international affairs.

Xi highlighted the urgency of defending the rule of law over power politics, stating that the world is currently facing unprecedented challenges requiring unified action. “China and Spain, as influential nations, must champion true multilateralism and foster equitable global governance,” he said during Sanchez’s official visit, which underscores Spain’s growing engagement with Asian partners.

Sanchez’s trip aligns with broader European efforts to balance economic ties with China while addressing strategic concerns. Analysts suggest the dialogue reflects a mutual interest in stabilizing supply chains and advancing climate cooperation ahead of key APEC discussions later this year.
