Chinese table tennis prodigy Wen Ruibo cemented his rising status with a triumphant performance at the WTT Contender Taiyuan, securing both men's singles and doubles titles in north China's Shanxi Province on Sunday. The 19-year-old overcame Japan's Maharu Yoshimura in a thrilling six-game final (7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-2), demonstrating remarkable resilience after an early tournament exit at this month's World Cup.
"I let out a yell after I won," Wen told reporters, addressing his emotional reaction to the victory. "This result helps me move past the disappointment from earlier this month and proves my ability to compete at this level."
The breakthrough performance propelled Wen to a career-high World No. 11 ranking. Earlier in the day, he partnered with Li Hechen to claim the men's doubles gold, contributing to China's clean sweep of all four tournament titles.
In women's doubles, newcomers Shi Xunyao and Han Feier impressed with a 3-1 victory over Hong Kong, China's Doo Hoi Kem and Ng Wing Lam (11-6, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10). Shi completed her own double by adding Sunday's win to Saturday's mixed doubles triumph.
The event highlights China's continued dominance in international table tennis while showcasing emerging talents poised to shape the sport's future.
