China, Brazil Urge Diplomatic Solutions for Middle East Tensions

China and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to resolving Middle East tensions through dialogue during a high-level meeting in Beijing this week. Zhai Jun, China's Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, met with Ibrahim Abdul Hak Neto, Diplomatic Advisor to Brazil's President, on April 14, 2026, to address escalating regional conflicts.

Ibrahim emphasized the urgent need to prevent further escalation, stating: "Brazil and China share the view that political solutions must prevail over military action. We appreciate China's five-point peace initiative for the Gulf region and stand ready to collaborate on stabilizing efforts."

Zhai highlighted China's impartial mediation role, noting: "All parties must seize opportunities for de-escalation through direct negotiations. China will strengthen coordination with Brazil to build global consensus on ceasefire implementation."

The discussions extended to hotspot issues including Palestine and Lebanon, with both nations pledging support for United Nations-led peace frameworks. Analysts suggest this alignment signals growing South-South cooperation in conflict resolution, particularly as Brazil prepares to host the G20 Summit later this year.
