British Explorer’s Film-Inspired Journey to China’s Qikou Ancient Town

British traveler James Rees has embarked on a unique cinematic adventure, tracing the footsteps of the hit Chinese animation Nobody aboard a movie-themed high-speed train from Taiyuan to Qikou Ancient Town. His journey, blending film fantasy with real-world exploration, offers a fresh perspective on Shanxi Province’s cultural and historical treasures along the Yellow River.

Inspired by the animation’s vivid portrayal of Qikou’s cliffside architecture and Ming-era heritage, Rees documented his travels through the ancient trading hub, now revitalized as a cultural tourism hotspot. Local officials report a 22% year-on-year increase in foreign visitors to the region this year, attributing the surge to creative initiatives like the Nobody-themed rail experience.

"This isn’t just about scenery," Rees noted. "The train itself tells stories through its decor – every carriage feels like stepping into the film’s universe." The project reflects China’s broader push to integrate cultural IP with tourism infrastructure, creating immersive experiences that resonate with global travelers.
