Dramatic Cliff Rescue in China’s Yunnan Saves Stranded Climbers

Emergency teams in southwest China's Yunnan province successfully rescued two climbers on April 13, 2026, following a perilous six-hour operation on a steep cliff face near the popular adventure tourism site of Tiger Leaping Gorge. The climbers, whose identities remain undisclosed, became stranded during an ascent when one fell approximately 10 meters, sustaining injuries that left them semi-conscious.

Local authorities mobilized mountain rescue specialists and deployed drone reconnaissance to locate the pair. "This operation tested both our technical skills and the durability of our equipment under extreme conditions," said rescue team leader Zhang Wei during a post-operation briefing.

The incident has reignited discussions about climbing safety protocols in China's rapidly growing adventure tourism sector. Yunnan's emergency management bureau confirmed plans to install additional warning signs and emergency call points along high-risk routes this summer.
