China Strengthens Ties with Algeria Through Latest Satellite Launch

China successfully launched the AlSat-3B remote sensing satellite aboard a Long March-2C rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on January 31, 2026. The satellite entered its preset orbit at 12:01 p.m. Beijing Time, marking another milestone in China's expanding space collaboration with Algeria.

Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, the AlSat-3B will support critical infrastructure projects, including land-use planning and disaster mitigation. Its advanced optical sensors are expected to enhance environmental monitoring and emergency response capabilities across North Africa.

This launch completes a bilateral agreement signed in July 2023 between the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and the Algerian Space Agency. The program includes two satellites—AlSat-3A, launched earlier this month on January 15, and AlSat-3B—along with ground systems and technical training.

The mission represents the 629th flight of China's Long March rocket series, underscoring the country's growing role in global space infrastructure development.
