China has launched an ambitious blueprint to revolutionize water conservation through cutting-edge technologies, targeting breakthroughs in high-efficiency equipment by 2027. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Ministry of Water Resources jointly announced the plan on Monday, positioning it as critical to safeguarding national water security amid growing climate challenges.
The strategy prioritizes three core areas: water supply optimization, precision utilization, and closed-loop recycling systems. By 2027, engineers aim to commercialize innovations in smart water management networks and industrial recirculating cooling systems – technologies expected to reduce waste in agriculture and manufacturing sectors that account for over 60% of China's water consumption.
"This initiative will create a new ecosystem for water-tech innovation," said an MIIT representative. "We're fostering partnerships between research institutes and enterprises to accelerate patent commercialization."
The roadmap outlines parallel development of industry standards and support for domestic manufacturers, with plans to cultivate globally competitive enterprises. By 2030, China aims to lead international markets in durable, high-performance water-saving solutions – a shift analysts say could reshape global sustainability supply chains.
