China’s First Legoland Resort Opens in Shanghai

Shanghai welcomed a new landmark for family entertainment as Legoland Shanghai Resort, the first Legoland theme park in the Chinese mainland, officially opened on Saturday following a month of trial operations. The park’s debut marks a milestone in China’s growing leisure and tourism sector, blending international brand appeal with localized attractions.

Spanning over 317,000 square meters in Shanghai’s Jinshan District, the resort features themed zones showcasing iconic Chinese landmarks recreated with Lego bricks, alongside roller coasters, interactive workshops, and a 250-room Legoland Hotel. Analysts note the project reflects rising consumer demand for high-quality domestic tourism experiences, particularly in the post-pandemic era.

The development, a joint venture between British operator Merlin Entertainments and Chinese partners, aligns with Shanghai’s push to strengthen its position as a global tourism hub. Local authorities highlight the resort’s potential to create jobs and stimulate regional economic growth, with projections estimating over 2 million annual visitors.

For families and cultural explorers, the park offers a unique blend of creativity and education, including STEM-focused activities. Travelers are advised to book tickets in advance, as the opening coincides with China’s peak holiday season.
