Chinese Paddlers Advance to Singapore Smash Round of 16

The Singapore Smash at the Singapore Open saw a strong performance from Chinese paddlers, who secured multiple spots in the round of 16.

In the men's singles, second-seeded Lin Shidong of China triumphed over France's Simon Gauzy with scores of 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9. Lin's next match will be against South Korea's An Jae-hyun.

Lin also showcased his versatility by competing in the men's doubles alongside Wang Chuqin and in the mixed doubles with Kuai Man. The pairings achieved significant victories, including a straight-game win against home wild card duo Clarence Chew and Josh Chua in the men's last 16, and a decisive win over the fifth-seeded Cho Dae-seong and Shin Yu-bin of South Korea in the mixed doubles quarterfinals.

Additionally, China's Xue Fei caused an upset by defeating Japan's third seed Tomokazu Harimoto with scores of 11-6, 6-11, 11-6, earning a place in the next round to face French thirteenth seed Alexis Lebrun.

On the women's side, top-seeded Sun of China continued her dominant performance by overcoming Japan's Miyuu Kihara 11-8, 11-7, 11-3. Sun is set to compete against Austria's fourteenth seed Sofia Polcanova in the upcoming round.

China's He Zhuojia also advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Japan's sixth seed Miwa Harimoto with scores of 11-4, 11-4, 11-9. She will meet South Korea's ninth-seeded Shin in her next match.
