Washington D.C. — Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States.
Han, attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping's special representative, engaged with leaders from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China.
"We hope U.S. companies will play an active role as a bridge and make greater contributions to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations," Han said.
He noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation. Han highlighted the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two countries.
"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community," he stated.
Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and China's reform and opening-up efforts. He reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up and improving its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community welcomed the positive signals from the recent conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi. They expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities, supporting strengthened dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable way to coexist," they said.
Later, Han met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of the country's development. Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation in China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
