Firefighters Cook Up Hope for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

Dingri County, Xizang Autonomous Region — More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of resilience and solidarity emerge from the affected communities.

In the remote Cuo'ang Village of Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role. Beyond their duties of ensuring safety and providing emergency services, they are now preparing hot meals for the villagers who have been displaced by the earthquake.

“Our goal is to support the community in every way we can,” said Lieutenant Wang, a member of the firefighting unit. “Food brings people together, and we hope that by sharing meals, we can lift spirits and foster a sense of normalcy during these challenging times.”

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand the dedication of these firefighters as they set up makeshift kitchens amidst the rubble. With limited resources, they managed to cook hearty meals, offering comfort to those who have lost so much.

The villagers expressed deep gratitude for the support. “They are not just firefighters; they are like family to us,” said Tashi, a resident of Cuo'ang Village. “Their kindness gives us hope for the future.”

As reconstruction efforts progress, the collaboration between the rescue teams and the local community exemplifies the strong spirit of unity in the face of adversity. The firefighters' initiative to cook for the villagers highlights the compassionate actions that often go unnoticed during disaster recovery.

The Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit continues to play a vital role in both relief efforts and community engagement, reinforcing the bonds that hold these communities together.
