China Makes Historic Mark with Double Medals at World Breaking Championships

China has achieved a historic milestone at the World Breaking Championships in Chengdu, securing two medals in a groundbreaking performance on Saturday. In an event that attracted over 180 athletes from 31 nations and regions, China’s breakers showcased their growing prowess on the global stage.

In the women’s event, Liu Qingyi, also known as B-Girl 671, clinched the silver medal after a series of impressive performances. Liu defeated Lithuania’s Dominika Banevich 2-1 in the semifinals, avenging her previous defeat. In the final, she faced India Dewi Sardjoe of the Netherlands. Despite adding fresh elements to her routine, Liu narrowly missed the gold, with Sardjoe securing the top spot with a 2-1 victory.

“My main goal in this competition is to dance happily while exploring areas and methods that are not my strength,” Liu shared. “Dance is an art form, and I don’t want to always win by performing in just one way. I want to express myself through various styles.”

On the men’s side, China’s Wang Ruimiao, known as B-Boy Monkey Z, made a remarkable debut. The 19-year-old advanced to the podium, earning the bronze medal after defeating Ukraine’s Oleg Kuznietsov 3-0. Wang’s achievement marks China’s first-ever medal in the men’s division at the World Breaking Championships. The gold medal was claimed by Japan’s Isshin Hishikawa.

The success of Liu and Wang signifies a significant step forward for China’s breaking community. Their performances not only highlight individual talent but also reflect the rapid development of breaking in the Chinese mainland. With the winners and runners-up earning direct entries into the 2025 World Games, China’s breakers are poised to continue their ascent in the international arena.
