The world’s top-ranked table tennis players, Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin of China, have both secured their spots in the semifinals of the 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao on Friday.
In the women’s singles quarterfinals, Sun Yingsha overcame South Korea’s Joo Cheon-hui with a 3-1 victory, posting scores of 11-6, 3-11, 11-6, and 11-2. Sun will face Japanese teenager Miwa Harimoto in the semifinals on Saturday. Reflecting on the upcoming match, Sun remarked, “As the semifinals adopt a best-of-seven format, it will test the players’ endurance and be a very tough match. I will give my all and enjoy the match.”
In the men’s singles, Wang Chuqin delivered a dominant performance against South Korea’s Cho Dae-seong, winning 3-0. Wang’s powerful play secures his place in the semifinals, highlighting China’s strength in the tournament.
Elsewhere, China’s Wang Manyu defeated Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the women’s singles quarterfinals. In a surprising upset, Miwa Harimoto triumphed over China’s Chen Xingtong with a 3-1 win, showcasing her rising talent on the international stage.
