China Opposes NATO’s Expansion into Asia-Pacific, Urges Peaceful Stability

China has expressed strong opposition to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) extending its influence into the Asia-Pacific region, warning against any actions that could provoke conflict or undermine regional stability.

“We firmly oppose NATO’s acting out of its mandate as a regional defensive alliance and coming to the Asia-Pacific region to provoke conflict and confrontation, undermining the prosperity and stability of the region,” said Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during a regular press briefing on Wednesday.

“We advise NATO to do more for world peace, stability, and security,” Lin added.

Lin’s remarks came in response to questions regarding China’s expectations for NATO’s 75th-anniversary summit taking place in Washington, D.C., from Tuesday to Thursday.

China has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, cautioning external forces against actions that may escalate tensions.
