Top Tennis Stars Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur Withdraw from 2024 Paris Olympics

Two of the world’s leading women’s tennis players, Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus and Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, have announced that they will not participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The unexpected decision was revealed by both athletes on Monday, citing concerns over scheduling and personal health.

“It’s too much for the scheduling, and I made the decision to take care of my health,” Sabalenka said during a press conference. “I prefer to have a little rest to make sure, physically and health-wise, I’m ready for the hardcourts. I’ll have a good preparation before going to the hardcourt season. I feel that this is safer and better for my body.”

Sabalenka, currently ranked third in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings, has had a remarkable season so far. She defended her Australian Open title in January and reached the quarterfinals at the French Open in June. The Belarusian star is currently in Germany, preparing for the Wimbledon Championships scheduled for July.

Ons Jabeur, a trailblazer for African and Arab women in tennis, has also decided to skip the Olympic event. While specific reasons were not detailed, it is understood that managing her health and scheduling commitments played a significant role in her decision. Jabeur has been a consistent presence in the top tiers of the WTA rankings and continues to inspire many with her performances.

The absence of Sabalenka and Jabeur from the Olympic Games marks a significant shift in the competition landscape. Their decisions highlight the rigorous demands placed on professional athletes, balancing global tournaments with personal well-being.
