Jakarta, Indonesia—In a significant move to bolster regional cooperation, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Thursday. Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to treating Indonesia as a diplomatic priority and reliable global partner. “China has always regarded Indonesia as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and a reliable partner in global affairs,” Wang stated during the meeting.
He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen coordination with Indonesia to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. “We stand ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Indonesian side to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, ensuring that the future of the region is always in its own hands,” Wang added.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of deepening strategic cooperation. “I hope to continuously push forward bilateral strategic cooperation at a higher level and upgrade the bilateral relations,” Prabowo said.
During his visit to Indonesia, Wang Yi also met with President Joko Widodo and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, further solidifying the commitment between the two nations to collaborate on regional and global issues.
As two of Asia’s largest economies, China and Indonesia share significant interests in promoting regional development and stability.
