Venezuelan Vlogger Explores Wenchang’s Culture Amid Boao Forum Spotlight

The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024 is currently underway in Boao, Hainan Province, China, from March 26 to 29. Under the theme “Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities,” the forum calls on all countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, rebuild confidence and trust, and promote peace and development.

Amidst this backdrop, Venezuelan vlogger Rafael Saavedra embarked on a journey to Wenchang, one of Hainan’s three major cities, to explore its rich history and assess the cost of living in this vibrant region.

Located in the northeast of Hainan Province, Wenchang boasts a history spanning more than 2,100 years, dating back to the Yuanfeng Period of the Western Han Dynasty in 110 BC when the central government established Zibei County. This city, steeped in history, offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern living.

Saavedra began his exploration by tasting the renowned “Old Dad’s Tea,” a traditional local beverage that embodies the essence of Wenchang’s hospitality. He then ventured to the bustling local seafood market, where fresh catches from the South China Sea are a daily staple, highlighting the city’s rich maritime culture.

Strolling through the historic Wennan Old Street, Saavedra experienced the architectural beauty and historical significance of the area. The well-preserved traditional buildings and narrow alleys tell tales of Wenchang’s past, offering visitors a glimpse into the city’s evolution over millennia.

Throughout his journey, Saavedra found that Wenchang offers an affordable lifestyle without compromising on cultural richness or modern amenities. His experiences showcase how the city balances its deep-rooted traditions with contemporary living, making it an attractive destination for travelers and potential residents alike.

As Hainan Province continues to gain international attention through events like the Boao Forum for Asia, personal stories like Saavedra’s highlight the everyday charm and accessibility of its cities. Wenchang, with its historical significance and welcoming community, stands out as a testament to the diverse and dynamic character of the region.
