China Launches World’s First Methanol-Powered Smart Crude Carrier

China marked a milestone in green maritime technology yesterday with the delivery of the world's first methanol dual-fuel smart ultra-large crude carrier in Dalian, Liaoning Province. The 333-meter vessel, capable of carrying 2.1 million barrels of crude oil, represents a leap forward in sustainable shipping solutions.

Developed with domestically engineered methanol dual-fuel engines and intelligent systems, the tanker reduces CO2 emissions by 92% and sulfur oxide emissions by 99% compared to traditional fuel-powered ships. This innovation aligns with global decarbonization efforts while maintaining operational efficiency for long-haul crude transportation.

Industry analysts highlight the carrier's potential to reshape energy logistics, particularly for Asian markets seeking cleaner fossil fuel transport options during the renewable energy transition. The project underscores China's growing leadership in advanced shipbuilding technologies and green industrial innovation.
