China, Russia Strengthen Parliamentary Ties Amid Strategic Partnership

China's top legislator Zhao Leji emphasized deepening parliamentary cooperation with Russia during a high-level meeting in Beijing on Monday, underscoring the growing synergy between the two nations. Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met with Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the Russian State Duma, to mark the 10th meeting of the China-Russia committee for parliamentary cooperation.

Under the strategic guidance of both countries' leaders, Zhao highlighted the 'healthy, stable, and high-level development momentum' of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership. He noted that bilateral collaboration, rooted in complementary strengths and shared goals of development and revitalization, has 'immense potential' to drive mutual progress.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the committee's establishment, a milestone Zhao described as a foundation for expanded cooperation. He urged both sides to leverage existing mechanisms to enhance exchanges, consolidate political trust, and advance the partnership. 'China's NPC is willing to work with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to implement the consensus of our leaders and contribute to the in-depth development of our relations,' Zhao stated.

The meeting reaffirmed commitments to mutual support and coordination, reflecting broader efforts to align legislative agendas with strategic economic and diplomatic priorities. Analysts view the strengthened ties as a stabilizing force amid global geopolitical shifts.
