A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday denounced recent military exercises conducted by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, calling them a futile attempt to disrupt cross-strait stability and advance “Taiwan independence.”
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, criticized the DPP’s “Han Kuang 41 exercise” during a press briefing, stating such actions “cannot change the inevitable failure of separatist agendas.” He accused the DPP of escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait to “seek independence through force,” warning it jeopardizes regional peace and the well-being of residents in Taiwan.
“Taiwan independence is a dead end,” Chen emphasized, reiterating that China’s reunification is an “unstoppable historical trend.” He urged the DPP to cease provocations, stressing that the Chinese mainland remains committed to peaceful development while safeguarding national sovereignty.
The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of cross-strait relations, with analysts noting the DPP’s maneuvers risk alienating business stakeholders and destabilizing East Asia’s security landscape. For global investors and policymakers, the situation underscores the need for cautious engagement with Taiwan-related matters under the one-China principle.
