Suicide Blast Targets Train Shuttle in Balochistan, Pakistan; 24 Killed

A devastating suicide attack targeted a shuttle of the Jaffar Express in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province this Sunday, leaving at least 24 people dead and 82 others injured.

The incident occurred around 8:05 a.m. local time shortly after the shuttle departed from the Quetta Cantonment. The train was primarily carrying law enforcement personnel who were traveling home for the upcoming Eid holidays.

The force of the explosion caused multiple bogies to derail and sparked fires in two of the carriages. Nearby vehicles were also damaged in the blast. Among the casualties were women and children, adding to the tragedy of the event.

Emergency response teams worked quickly to transport the wounded to medical facilities. According to police sources, 57 of the injured were moved to a military hospital, while another 25 were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Quetta.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was carried out using a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). Sources suggest the device was packed with more than 70kg of explosives, contributing to the widespread destruction and high casualty count.
