First Ship Navigates Strait of Hormuz Post-US-Iran Ceasefire

The first commercial vessel transited the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday under a fragile US-Iran truce, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency. The passage follows a two-week ceasefire agreement announced by former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, which halted military actions contingent on Iran reopening the critical waterway.

MarineTraffic data confirmed renewed vessel movements through the strait, which handles 21% of global petroleum trade. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi pledged safe navigation during the ceasefire period, stating Tehran would suspend defensive operations if attacks cease.

While Israel agreed to comply with the truce, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office reaffirmed continued military operations in Lebanon. The development comes as regional tensions remain elevated, with analysts cautioning that sustained stability hinges on diplomatic progress during the ceasefire window.

Shipping industry representatives have welcomed the temporary reprieve but urge caution. "This is a tentative first step," said a Singapore-based maritime logistics executive speaking anonymously. "The real test will be maintaining this momentum beyond the initial two weeks."
