Broadcom, Google Forge AI Chip Partnership Through 2031

Broadcom announced a landmark agreement with Google on April 7, 2026, to co-develop next-generation AI chips through 2031. The partnership will focus on creating custom tensor processing units (TPUs) for Google's AI infrastructure racks, signaling a strategic shift in the semiconductor industry as tech giants seek alternatives to Nvidia's dominant GPU solutions.

Expanding AI Infrastructure

In a parallel deal, Broadcom will provide AI startup Anthropic access to 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity using Google's TPUs starting in 2027. This comes as Anthropic reports explosive growth for its Claude AI model, with annualized revenue surpassing $30 billion this year – a threefold increase from late 2025.

Market Shifts in AI Hardware

The agreements highlight the intensifying competition in AI hardware development. Google's TPU sales have become crucial to its cloud division's growth since Reuters revealed its Nvidia-alternative strategy last December. Broadcom shares rose 3% in after-hours trading following the announcement.

Diversified Tech Ecosystems

Anthropic confirmed it will maintain multi-platform operations, continuing to use Amazon Web Services' Trainium chips and Nvidia GPUs alongside Google's TPUs. The startup's $50 billion US infrastructure investment plan aligns with broader industry efforts to build resilient AI ecosystems beyond single-vendor dependencies.
