Slovenian premium ice cream producer Incom Leone announced plans this week to relaunch exports to the Chinese mainland after a four-year hiatus, marking a significant milestone in post-pandemic trade recovery. The company's Ajdovščina production facility has resumed full operations, with the first shipments expected to reach Chinese consumers by June 2026.
This revival comes as Chinese authorities recently granted new import approvals, signaling strengthened economic cooperation between Beijing and Ljubljana. Before global supply chain disruptions halted operations in early 2022, the company had successfully penetrated Shanghai and Beijing's premium dessert markets through strategic partnerships.
Analysts note the timing aligns with China's growing demand for European specialty foods, particularly in first-tier cities where disposable incomes continue rising. The Slovenian Chamber of Commerce reports food and beverage exports to Asia have increased 18% year-to-date compared to 2025 levels.
While restarting production lines presents logistical challenges, company executives express confidence in recapturing market share. "Our return demonstrates commitment to long-term partnerships in China," stated CEO Marko Novak during a facility tour. "We're adapting flavors to local preferences while maintaining European quality standards."
