While current reserves stand at 39 days of petrol and 29 days of diesel – levels consistent with early-2026 inventories – Bowen confirmed secured shipments through May. He praised Southeast Asian partners for maintaining reliable energy exports amid global market pressures.
The minister emphasized the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, to mitigate broader economic impacts. Analysts suggest the shortages highlight vulnerabilities in Australia's fuel supply chain management during peak demand periods.
