Iran has accused the United States and Israel of causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, cultural landmarks, and public services in 2026, with government officials alleging deliberate targeting of non-military sites. The claims, detailed by Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani on Sunday, highlight escalating tensions in the region.
According to Mehr News, over 105,000 civilian buildings have reportedly been damaged since hostilities began, including 83,351 residential units and 39,508 mixed-use structures in Tehran alone. Mohajerani emphasized that 322 medical centers, 763 schools, and 55 libraries across 12 provinces were also affected, disrupting essential services for millions.
Attacks on scientific and industrial hubs drew particular condemnation. The destruction of Shahid Beheshti University’s laser and plasma laboratory and the Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone—where five fatalities and 170 injuries occurred—were cited as blows to Iran’s technological progress. Mohajerani also denounced strikes on Delaram Sina Psychiatric Hospital, calling them "clear war crimes" due to the facility’s role in housing vulnerable patients.
While international observers urge restraint, the allegations underscore growing concerns over humanitarian impacts in conflict zones. Analysts note that the targeting of cultural and educational sites could deepen regional instability, with implications for global energy markets and diplomatic relations.
