At least 25 people have died and dozens more sustained injuries in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province following torrential rains that began on March 25, according to provincial authorities. The disaster management agency confirmed Thursday that collapsed roofs, landslides, and flash floods caused most casualties across the mountainous northwest region.
Rescue teams are currently working in Swat, Dir, and Chitral districts where infrastructure damage has isolated several communities. Over 120 homes have been destroyed, forcing survivors into temporary relief camps. Provincial spokesperson Taimur Khan emphasized "all resources are mobilized for rescue and rehabilitation efforts" during a press briefing in Peshawar.
This early spring deluge comes amid growing climate concerns in South Asia, where shifting weather patterns have intensified seasonal rainfall. Meteorologists warn more precipitation is expected this week, complicating recovery operations in affected areas.
