Hegseth Ousts US Army Chief Amid Strategic Shifts

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has abruptly removed Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George from his position, multiple media outlets confirmed on Thursday. The decision comes amid heightened tensions linked to US-Israeli military coordination against Iran, though no official rationale was provided.

George, nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed in 2023, had been expected to serve until 2027. Analysts suggest the move reflects Hegseth's push to align military leadership with the strategic priorities of former President Donald Trump, who returned to office earlier this year. A senior Pentagon official stated, "We are grateful for his service, but it was time for a leadership change."

Gen. Christopher LaNeve, Hegseth's former military aide and current Army vice chief, will assume the role temporarily. The shakeup underscores ongoing debates about the US Army's direction as global security dynamics evolve.
