The Al-Amal Committee, a Sudanese-led initiative facilitating voluntary returns from Egypt, has introduced a new transport route to streamline repatriation efforts for displaced nationals. Announced on March 28, 2026, the route aims to ease travel burdens for families relocating after months of displacement due to ongoing regional instability.
Under the updated plan, returnees will travel by train from Cairo's Ramses Station to Aswan, followed by a steamboat journey along the Nile to Wadi Halfa in Sudan. The route permits up to 100 kilograms of luggage per person—a critical provision for families transporting household goods.
The committee emphasized that all services, including registration, coordination, and transportation, are free of charge. It issued warnings against unauthorized intermediaries charging fees or offering preferential access, urging applicants to use only the official online platform for registration.
Since its inception, voluntary return programs have facilitated over 428,000 repatriations by the end of 2025. The new route is expected to further accelerate returns this year, particularly as seasonal weather improves travel conditions across the region.
