Russia Condemns Attacks on Iran Nuclear Facilities, Urges Global Restraint

Russia has issued a strong condemnation of recent strikes targeting Iranian civilian nuclear facilities, calling for immediate international action to prevent further escalation. The attacks, which occurred on Friday, reportedly hit a heavy water research reactor in Khondab, a yellowcake production plant in Yazd Province, and areas near the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that such actions violate the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and IAEA security protocols. She urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take a firm stance, warning perpetrators that they have "crossed the line" and must cease hostilities.

The IAEA confirmed it received notification from Iran about the latest strike, marking the third incident in 10 days as of Friday. While Iranian authorities reported no damage to operational reactors or radiation leaks, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed grave concerns over military activity near nuclear sites, emphasizing the risk of a major radiological crisis if containment fails.

This escalation highlights growing tensions over nuclear security in the region, with global observers closely monitoring diplomatic responses. Russia’s appeal for restraint underscores the delicate balance between geopolitical posturing and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
